Overall Integrative Narrative
For me it is very important to keep my first language, so when it comes to this country culture shock, it made me appreciate my language and i decided that I want to learn more about it. By taking Spanish courses here in the United States in high school and college I realized that literature was my passion. Although at first I doubted my capacity, that drove me to study culture and languages at CSUMB. Achieving a Bachelor's degree in Spanish is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Spanish helped me learn more about my culture as it opened the door to a new world which I did not know. Although I thought that Spanish was very easy because it is my native language, I realized that I was wrong and I actually had a lot to learn. The things that I take from this university, especially from the Department of World Languages and Culture are too many but the most important is that I value the most is my culture and Spanish. I have also learned that literature plays an important role in life as it reflects our history. Analyzing a literary work opens the door to a fantastic world that enriches one's knowledge. In the future I would like to learn more about analyzing literature and its history behind. Being born in Mexico and arriving in the United States at the age of ten years was a very difficult experience to face. Being in this country and knowing that I had to learn English, I did not want to lose my Spanish. In the future, I would like to read more literature especially from Spain and Latin American in order to find and understand the history behind it.
