Course Reflective Narrative
By taking the course of Japanese Pop-culture, Jap 308 during the fall semester of 2014 I had the opportunity to expand my knowledge further on a totally different culture than my own. This course meets the requirements of MLO 4 Secondary Cultural Knowledge that this class has as main goal to teach and explore in depth the Japanese pop culture. This is a culture that makes it unique because it has popular aspects that make it stand out in the world as it is constantly changing. Also in this course I learned how the Japanese through their creativity are always trying to develop new ideas to improve the lives of people, mainly in the field of technology. I learned that one of the most important places in Japan is Akihabara mainly from its appearance during the Second World War as it is the industrial center of electronic. I also learned about their culture and how they relate anime cartoons makes a unique culture as it has been accepted by other countries to use their cartoons to entertain and communicate certain practices, beliefs and messages to his young audience. For example cartoons like Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon are some of them. Being a unique culture in the class also talk about their contribution to the economy, religion and beliefs through their creativity.
As a final exam in this class, we had to make two presentations and a review which reflect our knowledge and understanding of this new material. During this semester I learned things I had never heard of Japan, but something that captured my attention was his skill in being constantly innovating new products through their imagination. My goal is to keep learning about different kinds of cultures to gain greater knowledge and sharing it with my students in the future. This will help me be a better human has since taught me not to judge people because our culture makes us unique individuals.
